Theses
ITAM has no graduate programme in mathematics, so the undergraduate thesis is where advanced topics fit. Almost all my students come from the Partial Differential Equations course, which is an elective taken late in the degree.

As examiner
A thesis defence looks different from the other side of the table. I have sat on thirty undergraduate committees at ITAM since 2014, and on seven doctoral ones at four institutions in Mexico and Brazil.

If any of this makes you curious, write to me. You do not need to know the subject yet; you need to want to learn it.
- The bus that catches up with the one ahead. It is called bus bunching and you have lived it waiting at a stop: three arrive together and then none for half an hour. It is a transport phenomenon modelled with conservation laws, and it is understood with the same tools as oil recovery. It is the topic that requires the least background to start.
- Conservation laws applied to oil recovery. The Riemann problem in porous media: water and gas injection, foams, CO₂ sequestration. There is work to do on both the geometric and the numerical side.
- Mathematical biology and genomics. I am increasingly interested in modelling in biology, and in proteomics in particular. It is the area where I have published least and want to learn most, so it would genuinely be four-handed work.
